Q. What does it cost to drive through the lights?
A. There is no admission fee or cost to drive through the Way of Lights. At the end
of your drive, if you are able to and would like to help us keep the Way of Lights
free for everyone, donations are accepted. With a minimum donation of $10 or more,
you can receive a Way of Lights exclusive, limited edition, plush animal.
Q. I love getting the plush animals, but I missed out on the first
one in the series. Can I get one of those?
A. Currently, no. The plush are limited to the amount created in each particular year.
However, keep your eyes on our website. In future years, you might see an undated
full collection available.
Q. I hate waiting in the traffic to get in. Can’t you do something
about that?
A. Well, the short answer is no. The Way of Lights is a time-honored tradition for so
many people that sometimes, it just gets busy. The long answer, though, is that YOU
can do something about that by adjusting the day of the week that you come.
Traditionally, Monday – Thursday nights are the lighter traffic nights through the Way
of Lights. Friday, Saturday and Sunday evenings, especially as we get closer to
Christmas are the busiest. A great way to avoid the long traffic nights and enjoy
activities for a reduced cost is to visit on Tuesday Night Family Nights!
Q. What’s the best way to see the most at the Way of Lights
without getting in and out of my car?
A. All of the activities at the Way of Lights are within walking distance of one another.
The best plan is to park your car in one place, such as the Church parking lot where
the camels are located—just on the left after going through the lighted tunnel. Then,
you can take in the activities there. Next, walk across to the Visitors Center to take
advantage of all the great activities there. Finally, head back toward your car and on
to the Guild Center to check out the Laser Show.
Q. How many lights are there?
A. We have over one million lights on display along with statues and electro-art
sculptures which tell the story of Christmas.
Q. Who puts up all those lights, and how long does it take them?
A. We have a staff comprised of our four Roads & Grounds people, three Building
Maintenance staff and two electricians who “officially” begin on October 1st to put
up the lights. Prior to that time, they also work to check all the lights, fix broken
lights or electrical pieces and create new displays or sculptures.
Q. Do you just throw away the lights at the end of the season?
A. No. All of the lights that are in working condition or that are easily fixable are
saved. Each strand is tested, rolled and organized by size and type before being
put away. This process can take several months, but it is one of the most important
steps to insure we are prepared for installation the following season.
